Get Mad About Dellums
Let's have some real talk about our city mayor Ron Dellums. He's been just awful as "CEO" of Oakland.
He's a no show at critical meetings, he's barely part time, his wife is co-mayor undercover, he's stood by as the city's budget tanked, he takes fancy trips and bill the city, the list goes on. Yet despite this, and even as we face deep financial problems that may include police layoffs, few of our so-called city leaders are willing to call him on the carpet.
Oakland is an activist town, but there are few doing much about Dellums. There are no protest marches, no Facebook pages, no tweets going out about his sucky performance.
The new folks that have declared themselves candidates for mayor have been quiet as a mouse about his horrible performance. Most of the grass roots political groups and non profits in Oakland have also been pretty hush hush. The loudest voice about Dellums has come from a writer working for a San Francisco publication.
I'm not quite sure what's at work here. Is it because Dellums is from the old-school civil rights political class? Is it because he was a congressman? Why are we putting up with him?
Dellums is not untouchable. He's a bad mayor and folks should be mad as hell about it. I know I am.
Thanks KTVU Reporter Randy Shandobil for calling out our Emperor.
