Oakland Takes The Spotlight

Tonight, I'm heading out to support the two-day, second annual, Oakland Underground Film Festival. The festival, which runs from Sept. 23 through Sept. 25, will showcase a variety of films, including Thurnder Soul, a tale of inner city high school funk from the 70s, to American Grindhouse, which features a deep look into the ecclectic movie houses that sprang up in cities across the United States for a short time.

I'm also excited to be attending the festival because it's another example of the fantastic social events that regularly goes on in Oakland. More importantly, the festival is also a celebration of art.

I'm actually friends with the founder of the festival, Kahlil, who put in a lot of effort into bringing this festival to Oakland. Kahlil very much believes in Oakland and I know he put his heart and soul into making this a wonderful event.

The festival will be at the Grand Lake Theater and Linden Street Brewery. Make sure you come out and support this young film festival. It's a great thing for our city.
